Schwarmsynthesizer
Für das Museum für Kommunikation Nürnberg entwickelte ich eine Konzertperformance für Piano, Ableton und 25 Smartphones. Zum 25-jährigen Jubiläum des Smartphones hatte ich die Möglichkeit einen großen Schwarmsynthesizer mit modularen Visuals zu bauen und diese mit meiner Musik zu bespielen.
Jedes Handy offnete eine Website, die lokal auf meinem PC gehostet wurde und jede für sich einen eigenständigen Synthesizer mit zugehöriger Visualisierung darstellt. Zentral gesteuert wurde alles über Ableton und ein MIDI-Keyboard, so dass ich neben vorprogrammierten Szenenwechsel auch einen in echtzeit spielbaren Synthesizer hatte. Der Reiz, den diese Schwarm-artige Bauweise aufweist ist die Eigenständigkeit jedes einzelnen Gerätes. Sie sind nicht ganz synchron und die Steuerbefehle werden nicht immer gleichzeitig empfangen, was zu einem einzigartigen Klangerlebnis führt.
Swarm synthesizer
For the Museum für Kommunikation Nuremberg I developed a concert performance for piano, Ableton and 25 smartphones. For the 25th anniversary of the smartphone, I had the opportunity to build a large swarm synthesizer with modular visuals and play it with my music.
Each phone opened a website that was hosted locally on my PC, each representing an independent synthesizer with associated visualization. Everything was controlled centrally via Ableton and a MIDI keyboard, so that in addition to pre-programmed scene changes, I also had a synthesizer that could be played in real time. The appeal of this swarm-like design is the independence of each individual device. They are not completely synchronous and the control commands are not always received at the same time, resulting in a unique sound experience.
